DUE TO COVID-19 THE FISH RIVER ULTRA IS CANCELLED
Athletes who have paid for the Fish River Ultra 2020 are entitled to a full refund or can use it towards the 2021 event. Contact email@example.com for assistance.
The route provides for a 65km option and the full 100km option. Both versions will be unsupported foot races where competitors will be expected to cover the distance in the designated 24-hour period. Due to environmental conditions the organisers will provide support with additional water points along the routes if water conditions are not adequate for human consumption.
The full 100km distance must only be undertaken by seasoned ultra-distance runners, with experience in crossing, in parts, extremely difficult terrain as well as the likelihood of completing the course after dark. Event date is considered to coincide with full moons, nonetheless the canyon can be an imposing place after dark and requires athletes with sound judgement.
It must be noted that distances can vary due to environmental factors as well as the fact that the hiking trail consists of various trails along its course of following the Fish River. At places there is the availability of short cuts, these are shown on race routes, however it is up to the individual participant to navigate their own way through the course.
Accommodation at the first Race Village the night before the event will be in the form of tents (2.5m x 2.5m x 1.9m) overlooking the beautiful Fish River Canyon. The race ends at the hot springs resort, Ai-Ais (Namibia Wildlife Resorts) and accommodation will be provided yet again in the form of tents.
Should competitors want more formal accommodation, there is alternative accommodation available, but it is limited to availability and the cost of this will be for the competitor’s own account. Please note that the Summit Race Village (1st Race Village) is in a highly arid area and there are no showers at the Race Village itself. However, there are showers situated at the entrance of the National Park 17km from the Race Village. Services available at Summit Race Village and Ai-Ais Race Village:
